BruCERT Introduces Students To Internet Safety


Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT) held a talk on info-security awareness for nearly 300 Year Seven students at Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College, as part of the school's 'Orientation Week' programme for the new students. The talk was facilitated by Mohamad Azad Zaki Haji Mohd Tahir of BruCERT. The students were introduced to the Brunei Computer Misuse Act and they were briefed on the threats of social networking. The talk also included advice on good password management and what to do in case of cyber-bullying. Members of the BruCERT team later distributed security awareness booklets to the students to help them learn more about using the Internet safely. According to a teacher at the Science College, such security awareness talks were important for the young students as they will be using the Internet for school projects and activities, including receiving their classwork by e-mail. --Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin

OIC-CERT Conference & Workshop 2010 Aims to Tighten Cooperation in Mitigating Cyber Threats

APCERT Drill 2008


The Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) has successfully completed its APCERT Drill 2008 today.  A scenario of cyber attacks by the professional cybercriminal groups targeting at the Asia Pacific economies was simulated to put pressure on the participating teams in APCERT to test their response capability in addressing cyber threats.

APCERT Drill 2007

The Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT), has successfully completed its APCERT Drill 2007 today. A scenario of cyber attacks aimed at disrupting the upcoming Beijing 2008 Olympic Games was created to put pressure on the participating teams in APCERT to test their response capability in addressing cyber threats within the Asia Pacific economies.

JPCERT Visits BruCERT

JPCERT Delegates from Japan Make Courtesy Visit to BruCERT (ITPSS)

A group of three JPCERT delegates from Japan led by Ms Yurie Ito, Director of Technical Operation, made a courtesy visit to BruCERT. During the visit, Ms Yurie Ito and members of JPCERT was welcomed by ITPSS’s Chief Executive Officer, Shamsul Bahri Bin Hj Kamis. The programme aimed at fostering close ties and seeking possible future cooperation between JPCERT and BruCERT.

The courtesy visit began with a discussion forum. Among the issues discussed included gaining further understandings of IT related environment both in Brunei and Japan, exchanged opinions on certain CERT issues as well as possible future cooperation between both CERTs. The visit ended with a tour of ITPSS. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on collaboration that aims to improve collective information security efforts was signed during a dinner held at The Empire Hotel on the same day.

JPCERT delegates extended their visit to AITI (The Authority of Infocommunication Technology Industry) in the afternoon. At AITI, the delegates were greeted by AITI’s Assistant Chief Executive, Corporate Services, Pg Hj Mohd Salleh bin Pg Hj Aji. Accompanying the delegates during AITI visit were BruCERT’s Chief Operation Officer and Senior Operation Officers.

ASEAN CERT Incident Drill (ACID) 2007

ASEAN CERTs Incident Drill (ACID) 2007 on simulated malware incident handling and analysis was led by SingCERT, with the objectives of promoting co-ordination between ASEAN CERTs while providing opportunity for them to practice their malware analysis and incident handling procedures as well. It took place on 16th July 2007, commenced on 13:00 hours (GMT +8) and end on 16th July 2007 (GMT +8).

Its objectives are to re-affirm the points-of-contacts of the CERTs in ASEAN as well as to promote closer working relationship among these CERTs by offering an opportunity for CERTs to interact and learn from each other; to practice and enhance their incident handling procedure for cross-border incidents

Brunei(BruCERT), Thailand(ThaiCERT), Myanmar(MMCERT), Singapore(SingCERT), Malaysia(MyCERT), India (CERT-In), Korea (KrCERT/CC)
